Where is your store located?
Since 1998 our store has been on the Internet.  Canada Creek Tea Merchants is currently found only on the web.  We do not have a physical retail location.  We manufacture many of our products at  facilities in Nova Scotia, Canada and then ship them to a number of destinations.

Do you sell your products to stores?
Yes we do.  Our products are normally found in gourmet stores and in gift shops.  If you have a favorite store that does not carry our product, ask them to do so.  They may not have heard about us.  Also send us an e-mail at service@cctm.com and we will follow up with them.

Does Canada Creek develop its own products?
Yes.  We are not a reseller of tea.  We research and develop our own product lines.  We buy the loose tea, the natural flavors and other natural ingredients, and then blend them using our own unique recipes.  When you buy from us, you buy our products.

Why does Canada Creek not advertise?
We take our advertising budget and spend it on satisfying our customers.   Our advertising dollars are also used to buy superior quality ingredients, so that we may create great tasting teas.  We think this is a better way to spend the money.   Satisfied customers are our primary objective.  Someday, when we are big conglomerate, we will have slick TV ads.  For now, we will spend the money on making tea.

Why do you have "clickable" pictures on your web site?
Some people like pictures, others have slow modems and hate waiting for the web pages to load.  Even with improvements in technology, with more and more people joining the Internet, the web is going to move slower not faster.  Our objective is to minimize time wasters, hence the clickable pictures.  Our web pages are designed to load within 5-10 seconds.
If you wish to see the picture, click on the ones with the blue borders, they will expand. The size and times under the pictures are approximate.  They assume a slow day on the Internet.

How do I know a picture is"clickable"?

Clickable image.... Picture does not expand

If a picture has a border (usually blue) and a size and time caption underneath, then it is a clickable picture.  The picture will expand when you click on it with your mouse. The size and times under the pictures are approximate.  They assume a slow day on the Internet.
How do we calculate this time for download?  It is our best guess.  There are so many variables: your modem, the time of day, any big world events, and of course the usual net congestion, that an exact number is difficult.  However, based on your feedback, our impression is that our guess is conservative, and the pictures load quicker than our estimate.  So click away and enjoy.

Canada Creek uses only orthodox tea.  What is orthodox tea?
Orthodox tea is the top two leafs of each plant.  These two leaves produce the best quality tea leaf.  We use only these leaves in all our tea products.   Since tea plucking is still done by hand, it is possible to select these two leaves.

You sell loose tea, is this not in bags?
We use loose tea instead of bagged tea.  Loose tea is of the highest quality, the top two leaves, hand picked off each bush.  Bagged tea uses a much lower grade of tea leaf and is often ground into an un-recognizable dust.

How does one make and serve loose tea?
Unlike bagged tea, it is much easier to tailor loose tea for your individual tastes.  Loose tea is measured and placed in an infuser.  This metal container, usually with tiny holes in it, acts as an environmentally friendly, re-usable tea bag.   It allows the water in and the flavor out.  Some tea pots come with a strainer basket.  You can measure your tea into this basket and remove it before serving.   If you like a strong cup of tea, you can put the desired amount of loose tea into a cup and fill with boiling water.  Leave it there and enjoy.  When you get to the end, don't forget the loose tea at the bottom of your cup.

How much loose tea should I use?
This a tough one.  It all depends on you.  Typically, the optimum tea quantity is 1.5 grams per 6 ounce cup of water.  We suggest you start with a level teaspoon of loose tea, and then adjust it up or down according to your taste.   It doesn't take long to find your preferred strength.  Keep in mind that using too much tea is a waste of product, and can result in a bitter, distasteful cup of tea.   See FreeInfo for details.

How long do I brew the tea?
Brew the tea for 3-5 minutes or to your desired strength to taste.  Our associates normally brew their tea for about 4 minutes.  Check out our FreeInfo section for greater detail on brewing tea.

Can I add milk and sugar in Canada Creek teas?
Yes.  You can add milk and sugar to any of our black teas.  Adding milk and sugar to an herbal tea is an individual preference.

Can I use Canada Creek products to make Iced Tea?
Absolutely.  All our products make a great iced tea.  Don't forget to double the amount of tea to compensate for the extra ice.  For more details on the various methods of brewing both regular and iced teas, see FreeInfo.

What is the shelf life of Canada Creek tea?
Our products have been extensively tested for shelf life.  They have a shelf storage life of between 12-18 months.  Any product with a citrus blend will normally keep for 12 months.  Beyond this time, humidity, temperature fluctuations and other conditions in your home may result in a loss of flavor.  This loss is gradual and often is not immediately detectable.  If in doubt, try it out, and then replace with fresh tea.

How much tea does a 51g package make?
A 51g package of tea makes 31 generous cups of tea.  Depending on your tastes, you may make a stronger or weaker cup of tea.  Our customers tell us that they typically get between 25-35 cups of tea from one of our 51g packs.

What is the truth about caffeine in tea versus coffee?
Like everything else in life there is no simple answer.  It depends on your starting point.  Here are the facts as we know them today.  On a per pound basis, tea has more caffeine than does coffee.  However, a pound of tea will yield about 200-250 cups, depending on how strong you like your tea.  A pound of coffee will make between 30-40 cups, depending on how strong you like your coffee.   As you can see, a cup of tea has less caffeine per cup than does a cup of coffee.  It does so because you use less product per cup of water.  Before going to bed, you should ask which is better, per pound or per cup.  In a way, pound for pound, you get "better mileage" with tea than you do with coffee.

How much caffeine in a cup of tea versus coffee?
It depends on how much tea you use and how long you brew or steep the tea.  The following table will serve as a guide.  Keep in mind that these numbers are typical and will vary with quantities of water and tea.  In North America, we like big mugs of everything, while in Europe, the portions are often smaller.  This table gives estimates for both a 6 and 8 ounce cups.

6 ounce cup (Milligrams of caffeine) 8 ounce cup (Milligrams of caffeine)
Coffee 75 100
Black Tea 30 40
Green Tea 30 40
Decaf Tea 3 4
Herbal Tea 0 0

.

Does Canada Creek have decaffeinated teas?
Presently all our black teas contain caffeine.  We have a few caffeine free teas that do not contain any caffeine.  If you have a favorite black tea, you can remove the caffeine from it by using a very simple method.  See our FreeInfo section or just click below:
Want to reduce the caffeine, but you have just regular tea?

Do you have any green teas?
We have a new line of high quality green teas that will be released in early 2001.   Stay tuned for this and other exciting product announcements.
